About Sydney
Sydney wraps around one of the world's great harbors: the Opera House and Harbour Bridge at Circular Quay, the Royal Botanic Garden, ferries to Manly and Watsons Bay, and the coastal walk from Bondi to Coogee. Surry Hills and Newtown have the cafés and bars; the Blue Mountains are two hours by train.
Getting in: Kingsford Smith airport is 5 miles south. The Airport Link train reaches Central in 13 minutes (about A$20 including the station fee); taxis and rideshares cost A$45–$60 to the center. Tap a credit card for all trains, buses and ferries — fares cap daily and weekly.
US citizens need a passport and an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA), applied for through the Australian ETA app for A$20 before departure. Australian dollars are usually worth about 65 cents US, which softens prices; tipping isn't expected. A flat white is A$5, a pub meal A$25–$35. Sun protection is essential — UV levels are extreme.
