About Montego Bay

Montego Bay itself has the Hip Strip (Gloucester Avenue) with Doctor's Cave Beach, Margaritaville and craft markets, plus Rose Hall's plantation great house. Most visitors head 90 minutes west to Negril for the long beach and cliff-jumping sunsets at Rick's Café, or 90 minutes east to Ocho Rios for Dunn's River Falls and the Blue Hole.

Getting in: Sangster International sits right in Montego Bay — 10 minutes to Hip Strip hotels and 30 to Rose Hall. Licensed JUTA taxis and prebooked shuttles (Knutsford Express coaches, $20–$30) cover Negril and Ocho Rios; the highway to Ocho Rios is fast. Resorts usually include or sell transfers.

US citizens need a valid passport; complete the free C5 immigration form online before arrival. Jamaican dollars are the currency but US dollars are widely accepted at resorts. Tip 10–15% where service isn't included (many all-inclusives prohibit tipping). Jerk chicken from a roadside drum pan ($5–$8) beats most resort buffets.

December–April is dry and busiest. May–June and November are excellent value; late summer and early fall are the wettest and cheapest.
